The first period between Canada and Switzerland remained scoreless, with Canada limiting the Swiss to only one shot on goal. Marie-Philip Poulin then scored twice in the second period, securing the victory for the Canadians.
However, the Swiss fought back in the third period. Rahel Enzler even brought the team within one, scoring in the 45th minute of play. Goaltender Andrea Brändli kept the Swiss in the game, facing 46 shots, but in the end the Canadians pulled through.
Still, it was the closest game in terms of the score ever between the two teams. While Canada will now go on to play against the U.S. for gold, Switzerland will face Sweden in the bronze medal game.
