"What Nino Niederreiter accomplishes day in and day out is absolutely impressive. He has always remained true to himself and has never forgotten his roots," says Ralph Stöckli, Switzerland's chef de mission. Niederreiter is going to participate in his second Olympic Games and recently has surpassed 1000 regular-season games in the NHL, the first Swiss hockey player to ever appear in that many games.

Nino Niederreiter is proud of being selected: “It is a huge honor and an incredible privilege to represent Switzerland as flag bearer at the Winter Olympics in Milano Cortina. I am very proud to be able to carry this symbol of our country before the whole world, and I am very much looking forward to the upcoming ice hockey tournament.”

While Nino Niederreiter will be the flag bearer in Milan, ski cross competitor Fanny Smith will bring the Swiss flag at the ceremony in Livigno.
