First extension talks for Nico Hischier, but also non-Devil interest

A member of the New Jersey Devils since 2017, Nico Hischier is getting into the final stretch of his current seven-year contract with them. As "The Athletic" writes, preliminary discussions about a possible extension have been held, but nothing concrete is there just yet.

There is also a chance the 27-year-old could leave the Newark-based club, either via trade or at the end of his deal. Interest from outside exists, and the Montreal Canadiens are specifically mentioned as an organization likely keeping an eye on the situation.

During his ten seasons with the Devils, Hischier has appeared in 631 games, recording 205 goals and 295 assists. In 2020, he was named captain of the team.
