Extension between Nico Hischier and the Devils finalized

The New Jersey Devils have announced a contract extension for their captain, Nico Hischier. During the newly added five years, the Swiss forward will earn an average of $ 11.7 million for a total of $ 58.5 million.

"When I took this job, I knew that Nico was one of the core pieces that I definitely wanted as part of our future", Sunny Mehta, the Devils' General Manager (since April), states. "The way he plays the game, his leadership, and selflessness are qualities we value for this team. We all look forward to him leading this franchise, on and off the ice, for years to come."

Hischier is still finishing his current contract, which nets him $ 7.25 million per year, until next summer. He has been part of the Devils since 2017, when he was selected first overall in the NHL Entry Draft. Throughout his time with them, the now 27-year-old has collected 205 goals and 295 assists in 631 games. In 2020, he was named captain.
