Spengler Cup confirms participation of NCAA-team

After the story crossed the Atlantic over the weekend, it did not take long for the Spengler Cup organizers to confirm the participation of a team made up of NCAA players. It will be the first time for such a selection to compete at the tournament. There have, however, been two university teams in the past, specifically in 1981 (Minnesota) and 82 (North Dakota).

The NCAA squad is the sixth and final participant; the other five are HC Davos, defending champion HC Fribourg-Gottéron, regular attendee Team Canada, HC Sparta Praha, and IFK Helsinki.
