As Klaus Zaugg ("Watson") reports, Kevin Schläpfer, team manager of EHC Basel, has convinced Heinz Ehlers to stay in Switzerland and become the new assistant coach of Eric Himelfarb, EHC Basel's head coach.
“I don't want to take responsibility for a whole team anymore, and I don't feel like explaining the reasons to the media after defeats," Ehlers tells Zaugg. "I just want to be involved in hockey for one more season, contribute my knowledge, but also have time to rest. Basel is perfect for me: a beautiful city with an airport. So I can pop home from time to time."
Oliver Schäublin, CEO of EHC Basel, did not disclose anything when asked about EHC Basel's vacant assistant coaching position: "We are still looking and hope to find a replacement [for Michel Zeiter] soon." According to Schäublin, they hope to introduce their new assistant at the beginning of May.
