The 31-year-old defenseman has decided to hang up his skates effective immediately due to health reasons.

EHC Basel

"I am very sorry to see Anthony Rouiller retire. It was always a pleasure to watch him play hockey. With his creative and offensive style of play, he will be sorely missed in the Swiss ice hockey scene. I had the privilege of coaching him as a young player and even then I recognized that he would be a great asset to Swiss ice hockey," Kevin Schläpfer, team manager of EHC Basel, said.

Rouiller joined Basel in the 2023-24 season. He has been dealing with injuries since last season and was not able to play a single game this season. Upon reflecting about his situation, he has thus decided to retire.

The defenseman is a product of EHC Biel's organization and suited up for them until 2016 when he joined EHC Olten. After four seasons with the Mice, he signed with HC Ajoie. He was twice part of teams who were promoted to the National League and won the Swiss League championship three times.
