According to "Blick", the ZSC Lions have decided not to give Tomas Mitell a chance. The current head coach of Färjestad BK supposedly wanted to know as fast as possible whether he would legitimately have a chance to coach the Lions next season.
Team manager Sven Leuenberger was, however, not ready to give that answer to Mitell. The Lions might go with their current head coach Marco Bayer next season but a final decision will only be made after the season, as Leuenberger tells "Blick". One thing is clear, though: Bayer will remain with the organization, either as the head coach of the ZSC Lions or as the head coach of the GCK Lions.
As first reported by Klaus Zaugg ("Watson") and now confirmed by Leuenberger to "Blick", Bayer has been signed to a two-year contract extension: "Before he took over at ZSC, we were already in the process of extending his contract with the GCK Lions. We didn't want him to lose anything that we had already promised him due to the new situation, so Marco also has security.”
As for Mitell, "Blick" speculates that the 44-year-old Swede might become the next head coach of HC Lugano. "Sportsbladet" reported last week that the Swede would coach in Switzerland next season. It thus remains to be seen whether "Blick"'s prediction turns out to be true.
