The 34-year-old defenseman has decided to put an end to his career due to personal reasons and will thus leave HC Lugano effective immediately.

HC Lugano

"My choice is strictly a personal one. I discussed this with my family and concluded that I should end my career here and return to Canada. I'm thankful to HC Lugano for their professionalism and for respecting my choice, and I wish the club and the team to succeed again," Justin Schultz said in a statement released by the team.

Justin Schutz can look back on a long and successful career in the NHL. The defenseman, who was drafted by the Anaheim Ducks, played in over 800 NHL games throughout his career, suiting up for the Edmonton Oilers, the Pittsburgh Penguins, the Washington Capitals, and the Seattle Kraken. Schultz' adventure in Lugano lasted only eight games, in which he recorded six assists.
