Once the Finn's current contract is up next year, he will have been in the country for long enough to possibly apply for citizenship.

Toni Rajala joined EHC Biel in 2016. Since then, a lot of time has passed - he has signed four extensions, become a father (twice), seen Gaëtan Haas leave and return - and added almost enough years to be able to apply for Swiss citizenship. Once his current contract is up in 2026, he will have that requirement fulfilled. Not counting towards the import limit, "that could give me a few extra years here", Rajala tells ""Der Bund"".

But where does the Finn's future lie? A decision has not been made yet. The one thing that is clear for him is that if he were to stay in Switzerland, it would be with Biel. "Getting the pass and then leaving to sign one more really big contract, I would not do that, I have been playing for this club too long for that."
