Just a few months after the outline of the winning project was unveiled, the construction of the new arena is already behind schedule by approximately 15 months, with the facility now expected to open during the 2030 season. According to the Canton of Geneva, the project requires adjustments due to its complexity.
Firstly, a fine-tuning process was granted to the architectural competition, pushing the deadlines back by four months. Secondly, there are uncertainties linked to infrastructures such as the footbridge and the convertibility of the P+R (Park & Ride) parking lot. Finally, there was the need to address a number of issues relating to mobility, public spaces, and urban integration.
The project envisages the construction of a main rink for 8,500 spectators and a 300-seat secondary rink.
