Switzerland did not have the best start to the game. The first five minutes were dominated by Latvia, also thanks to a powerplay opportunity they received one minute into the game.

However, the Swiss eventually found their footing and turned momentum in their favor, but the first period remained scoreless.

The second period saw the Swiss with countless chances, but they did not manage to convert on any of them until the 31st minute of play, when Timo Meier scored the first goal of the night.

However, Latvia only needed a bit over one minute to tie the game again. After that, both teams had their chances, but it was  Switzerland which pulled ahead again. This time thanks to a powerplay goal by Damien Riat in the 38th minute of play.

Switzerland increased their lead in the third period thanks to a fast goal by Dean Kukan, only 59 seconds into the period. The Latvians did, however, not back down and also had a couple of chances. Still, the Swiss remained in control of the game and eventually Damien Riat scored the fourth goal of the night for the Swiss. While the Latvians scored another goal in the last minute of play, the Swiss pulled through and won the game 4-2.
