Men's Worlds

It was getting close at the end, but they managed to hang on - the Swiss squad managed to defeat Germany in an elimination game.

swisshockeynews.ch

Thanks to a 3-1 victory, the Swiss national team has advanced to the semifinal at the 2024 IIHF World Championship. The Germans, after two negative experiences against them one and three years ago, were finally beaten.

Christoph Berstschy opened the score a bit over seven minutes into the game shorthanded - Andres Ambühl was in the box for tripping. About ten minutes later, Nico Hischier took advantage of a rebound and beat German netminder Philipp Grubauer a second time.

In the second period, Germany managed to get within one, with SC Bern-import Dominik Kahun scoring on the power play. Andrea Glauser was sitting for tripping.

Unlike three years ago, Switzerland managed to hang on this time in the third period and hold onto its lead until the end. Christoph Betschy even managed to get an empty netter to make it 3-1.
