The captain of the Czechs beats out Roman Josi in a vote "conducted by more than 100 media from the top 22 nations of the Men’s World Championship program."

Monika Majer / RvS.Media

Roman Červenka had 31.3 per cent of the vote, while Roman Josi had 30.3. Thus, It was a close race for the award, which was awarded for the second time in IIHF history.

The award is intended for players who excelled at the IIHF level (Men’s Worlds, World Juniors, World U18 Men’s) and their respective domestic leagues. Both players fulfil those criteria: they both come off a great World Championship and excelled in their league, Cervenka in the National League (leading scorer of the SC Rapperswil-Jona Lakers) and Josi in the NHL (second in scoring of the Nashville Predators).
