As known, Alex Formenton and four other members of Canada's U20 squad in 2018 have been charged with sexual assault. The five players have indicated they will plead not guilty and have opted for a jury trial, which is scheduled to start in September 2025.
While awaiting trial, Formenton has moved away from a hockey career and has been working full-time in construction while getting ongoing training in the operation of heavy equipment as well as the administration aspects of his new job.
Formenton, 24, suited up for parts of the last two seasons with HC Ambrì-Piotta. In 46 regular-season games with the Biancoblù, the forward scored 20 goals and put up nine assists.
